A brief introduction to the start of the American civil rights movement, including the work of civil rights activists at the end of World War II, the contribution of the government to growing the civil rights movement, and the effect of the early movement on wider society. This lesson considers the work of the Congress on Racial Equality (CORE) and reviews the impact of both the executive and the judiciary in achieving the objectives of the civil rights movement.
